Data Scientist

The role will focus on areas such as:

  • Predictive modeling
  • Recommendation systems
  • Revenue optimization and management
  • Yield optimization and management
  • Pricing optimization
  • Conversion-rate optimization
  • Site / User-Experience optimization
  • Fraud analytics and detection

The Big Data Scientist will be responsible for integration of multiple systems and data sets. The data scientist will link and mash up distinctive data sets to discover new insights. Connect different types of data sets in different forms as well as being able to work with potentially incomplete data sources and cleaning data sets to be able to use them. He or she will be responsible for statistical, mathematical, predictive modelling as well as business strategy skills to build the algorithms necessary to ask the right questions and find the right answers. He or she will be responsible for communicating their findings, orally and visually. They need to understand how our business and industry works and even more important, as big data touches the privacy of consumers, they need to have a set of ethical responsibilities. He or she will be very curious, who enjoy diving deep into the material and data to find an answer to a yet unknown question. Natural desire to go beneath the surface of a problem and ask the right business questions.  

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to program in languages such as Python, R, Java, Ruby, Clojure, Matlab, Pig or SQL;
  • Understanding of Hadoop, Hive and/or MapReduce;
  • Natural Language Processing, Machine learning, Conceptual modelling, Statistical analysis, Predictive modelling and Hypothesis testing:
  • Provide advice senior management in clear language about the implications of their work for the organization;
  • Create examples, prototypes, demonstrations to help management better understand the work;
  • Having the ability to query databases and perform statistical analysis;

Qualifications

Backgrounds:

  • Masters or PhD, Computer Science, MIS, Math, Statistics, or other relevant field; advanced degree strongly preferred
  • Understanding of big data, unstructured data, relational databases, and analytic reporting
  • Expertise or familiarity with big data solutions such as Hadoop, MapReduce, HBase, Spark, AWS, Azure, MongoDB, Cassandra, NoSQL
  • Track record of driving results through data modeling, predictive modeling, machine learning, etc.
  • Experience in successful B2C e-commerce company/s of similar scale
  • Travel industry experience: air (preferable), OTA, hotel, rental car, ancillaries would be ideal
  • 3+ years’ experience

  • Being able to work in stressful situation when insights in (new) data sets is required quickly;
